Relay for Life – 2012

On June 8-9, 2012, KP Cares was part of the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life. In continuation of the KP Cares wristband fundraising efforts, most of the students who helped sell the wristbands at lunch participated in the event. A total of 17 participants comprised the team and they were able to raise a combined $2,147.60 for the American Cancer Society. Even with a few hours of sleep, the team collectively walked over 100 miles throughout the course of the night— the dedication and commitment from the team members was amazing. Despite the fact that it started pouring a little before midnight, no amount of rain could dampen our spirits . Our sore feet and fatigue were well worth it in the end and it was most certainly a memorable event for all!

KP Cares Packages

On December 1st KP Cares packaged 12 care packages to be sent to soldiers stationed overseas. Helping put these packages together was Mr. Cavanaugh’s 6th grade class from the Freeman-Kennedy Elementary School in Norfolk, MA. Each box was filled with comfort foods and toiletries, along with letters students from the Jackson, Wrentham, and Freeman-Kennedy Elementary Schools had written. State representative Dan Winslow also stopped by to help us out. The event was a huge success and we hope the soldiers enjoy the packages!

On January 12th and 13th, we are hosting another opportunity for community members to help us prepare more care packages to send to a battalion of 60 stationed in Afghanistan. We have received donations from the Lone Star Motorcycle Rally, Advanced Dental Practices in Wrentham, MA; and the Wyndham Hotel in Galveston, Texas. We look forward to sending these care packages overseas to surprise the servicemen and women after the holiday rush.
